Season 7, Round 4 - Suzuka (JPN)

Yet again, Suzuka featured a grid of 10 drivers, but did not mean it did not create less exciting racing! The competitors battled against the elements, having a wet practice session, but a dry rest of the meeting. A relief for some!

Qualifying saw a dominative performance from Alessandro Ceronetti who took another pole position this season over team mate Corrie Hiatt, putting 2 tenths between himself and pole sitter. Bryce Stevens took third place.

The Qualifying heat, featured a battenberg early on, seeing Daniel Fellows and Alex Lahoz spin out at the back of the pack, both not having the greatest days in the office but both great drivers in their own right. Hiatt took an early lead, dropping Ceronetti and Stevens following a collision the same lap. Ceronetti dropped back to P5 whilist Stevens to P4. This promoted Daniel Fellows and Dylan Denhaese into more competitive positions, despite their poor starts! 10 Laps later, Stevens managed to make it all up back in P2, whilist Ceronetti came back to P3, with Fellows and Denhaese following behind!

The Pre-Final went the way of Hiatt again, and with a dominative gap too! He took an immediate advantage over Dylan Denhaese who had a great start too, but was later involved in an incident with Ceronetti which dropped back both of them. Ceronetti managed to pick up the pieces to finish P3 again, behind an impressive Daniel Fellows who had spun out in the early stages of the race!

The final race of the day featured some of the best racing of the entire season! Three drivers were in it for the win, Hiatt, Ceronetti and Fellows. Following some early defending, Hiatt managed to fight off Ceronetti and Fellows till Ceronetti actually made a mistake and dropped back 2 seconds behind Hiatt. Ceronetti managed to catch back up to both, but as soon as he got back to Hiatt, the two collided, and dropped them back into the clutches of Fellows, and gave Hiatt a comfortable lead. Ceronetti managed to give Hiatt a pain in the back till the very last lap, featuring an epic photofinish! 0.01 separated Hiatt and Ceronetti, who put up a great show all night!

Post-Race, Hiatt was penalised which promoted Ceronetti to the win, and Hiatt back to 2nd. Fellows finished 3rd. Ceronetti claims: 'The battle with Hiatt was great, he defended really well, and it's defenitely not the way I wanted to win.' An annoyed Hiatt, claimed to the microphones: 'Despite the great battle, I do not understand why I got that penalty, but you know, it's racing and we move'. Fellows was chuffed with his P3, which promoted him further into the top 10 in the championship!

Coming into the closing round at Casteletto, the standings are on fire, seeing Ceronetti and Heathman having a close dice till the very last minute. Just 5 points separate the two on drops, Heathman having missed this round, earns an advantage on the drop round situation, and comes into Casteletto having a lot of confidence to re confirm his title for the third consecutive time! Hiatt earns an important advantage in the Rookie Championship, pulling a 17 point gap between himself and Rowan Gill, who also missed this round. The battle for the top 5 is still very heated as Gill, Stevens and Fellows still fight it out till the end.

So is it going to be Stars and Stripes or Union Jack for the championship? Find out at Casteletto on Wednesday 17th June 2020, for the great season finale!
